It is not easy to see the educational value of form drawing by looking at the children’s drawings; for its effectiveness is realized in the process, not the product... form drawing is a present record of a past movement...just as the meander of a dried up water-course records the flow of a river.

 Your Guide:

Rev Bowen, form drawing course creator for grades 1-4 for Waldorfish.com. Form drawing curriculum for the homeschool classroom.

Rev Bowen was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He earned his Waldorf Teaching Certificate from the Rudolf Steiner College in 2000 and his M.A. in Human Development from St. Mary’s University in St. Paul, MN in 2004.

As a class teacher, Rev has graduated three classes at the Live Oak Waldorf School- 2008, 2016, and 2018. He now serves in the role of Pedagogical Development Director. He loves listening to and making music, paddling in canoes or kayaks, swimming in lakes and rivers, backpacking, hiking and camping, reading and writing, and playing games of all kinds. His children both attended Waldorf schools, Preschool - 8th grade.

I experienced Rev Bowen as a guide during my practicum teaching in my Waldorf teacher training and I still glean sparks of wisdom from that time. I was grateful for his sense of humor and approachability, and the way he brought intention and depth of understanding through all of the daily practical lesson choices. I signed up for these courses (Form Drawing), in large part, because I saw that he was leading them.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • We encourage families to think of our form drawing courses as "Levels"  - they are designed to match the form drawing content typically taught in specific grades at Waldorf schools - however, if a child (or adult!) is in a different grade but has never done any form drawing, we encourage them to start as close to the beginning of the series as possible. The benefits of form drawing are cumulative, with each lesson building on the skills that came in previous lessons.

Grades 1 & 2 in this series have been designed for adult self-study. Grades 3 & 4 have been created for children to watch as well. Teacher Rev Bowen will check-in to answer questions in the classroom once per day, with the exceptions of weekends & holidays.

Therefore, please bear this in mind when registering. If you have regular broadband, you should be fine. The videos in this course are *not* downloadable.

To develop a feeling for form, the hands must be brought to feel the form; we need to see with our hands. We need to describe the feeling of the movement. We need to work through a form until it is incorporated into us.
